Those Mythical Pleiadians

On January 28,1975 near the small hamlet of Hinwil, not far from Zurich, Switzerland—an idyllic Alpine setting befitting the magnificent scenery from The Sound of Music—an extraordinary ‘cosmic’ event began to unfold…

Responding to a compelling, “pleasant” inner voice, a handicapped, part-time security guard named, Eduard Meier, climbed upon his Mo-Ped motorbike and headed off to a remote pine-woods in the Swiss countryside. Eventually stopping near a clearing in the trees, Meier noticed a singing noise in the sky and looked up to see a gleaming silver disc-craft, approximately 21feet in diameter, descending from the clouds. The craft slowly hovered lower to the ground and finally landed on extended tripod legs. After a few moments, Meier could see what looked like a person approaching him from the craft. As this figure drew near, he could see what appeared to be a petite young woman. Her flowing hair was long and blonde and she was dressed in a close fitted, textured gray bodysuit. Without any trace of hesitation, she directly walked up to Meier and began conversing with him in his native Austrian/German dialect.
Feeling quite at ease with his mysterious companion, they strolled together to the foot of a nearby tree, where they sat and talked for more than an hour. The ‘girl’ introduced herself as ‘Semjase’ and explained that she was visiting the Earth from a distant star system we know as the Pleiades, some 500 light years away. She further explained that the purpose of her visit was to allow Meier to take photographs of the Pleiadian ships as proof of their existence.

“For a long time we’ve had an urge to contact someone who sincerely wants to be helpful in our mission. Here and there we open such contacts with inhabitants of different worlds, but only when they have developed enough to become rational, thinking beings. Then we prepare them for the thought that they are not the only rational, thinking beings in the universe.”
And thus began one of the most extraordinary, enigmatic and controversial UFO contact cases ever recorded.
The Meier’s story unfolds with an incredible meeting between an Earth human and an extraterrestrial girl from far across the galaxy sharing an exchange as charming and prosaic as a neighborly chat across the back yard fence.

Five years later this case had become an international sensation, and the prime catalyst for my own personal involvement in UFO research. Lt. Col.Wendelle Stevens, USAF (ret.), a resident of Tucson, AZ and an avid UFO researcher since 1947, had become the primary investigator of the famed Meier/Pleiadian UFO case. As a resident of Tucson myself, I had the good fortune of meeting Col. Stevens in the spring of 1980, a time when he was deeply involved studying Meier’s extraterrestrial contact claims. Considering the numerous photographs and accumulated evidence gathered up to that time in this investigation, I could easily see it had the potential of becoming perhaps the premiere discovery of the 20th Century—actual proof of the existence of a sophisticated, high-tech civilization from across the galaxy—verification that humans of Earth are not alone in the universe!
Stevens, two years earlier, recognizing the potential importance of this case, had assembled a team to assist his investigations. Counter-measure security specialists; Lee Elders and his wife Brit as well as their associate Tom Welch–all of whom, worked for a firm called Intercept in Phoenix, Arizona–went to work, at their own expense, to determine the authenticity of Meier’s UFO contact claims. Using state-of-the-art photographic, laser and computer technology, Wendelle and his team sought to perform the most exhaustive, thorough investigation ever brought to bear on any UFO case.
I had to be part of such a potential blockbuster story as this! So without hesitation, I offered to lend my skills as an illustrator to Wendelle’s research team, and by doing so found myself plunging headlong down the ‘Rabbit-hole’ of the vast Pleiadian enigma.
90
With each passing month, Wendelle’s ongoing investigation seemed to find more and more evidence to authenticate Meier’s claims. Digital examination of the UFO photographs confirmed that they were, in fact, images of a large object photographed at some distance from the camera—ruling out models or ‘paste-up’, trick photography. Audio recordings of the alleged ‘beam-ship’ sounds baffled technicians in professional sound labs. The unique high-pitched warbling captured on tape matched no sounds that could be duplicated with known Earth-bound technology. Even metal samples provided to Meier by his Pleiadian ‘friends’ puzzled experts at IBM labs. How a one-armed, Swiss security guard with no more than a sixth-grade education, riding about on a little Mo-Ped, could fabricate such an elaborate hoax so sophisticated it would cost a Hollywood special effects house millions of dollars and man-hours to duplicate, was the question no one could answer. Perhaps Eduard Meier’s claim to be taking pictures of ships from outer space was true.

Yet, Meier had taken hundreds of photographs—a challenging task for a man with one arm! Years earlier, while traveling in Greece, Eduard Meier had lost his left arm in a bus wreck. However, he owned a 35mm camera that he was able to use with one hand. And if that was not remarkable enough he also took spectacular 8mm movie footage of the Pleiadian ships as well.
5
And by 1980, Meier was not the only person to observe the ships–as many as thirty other people living in the vicinity had witnessed UFO activity related to the Pleiadian case. Up to that, time Meier claimed to have had as many as 130 meetings with these visitors from space and he had written over 3000 pages of contact notes.
3
From this point the investigation became more subjective. Yes, the investigative team could authenticate the physical evidence, but there was no real way to verify the stories that Meier told about his Pleiadian contacts. Were they fanciful embellishments from his own imagination or a fascinating glimpse of an ‘other worldly’ culture…? Psychological Stress Evaluation of Meier himself could not detect deception–to this day, that question remains unanswered.
To delve into the contact notes reveals a tale reminiscent of James Hilton’s classic tale Lost Horizon, only in this instance the mythical ‘Shang-ri-la’ lies not in a hidden Himalayan valley, but light years away in the Pleieades star cluster. Meier insisted the primary intent of the Pleiadian visit was “not to harm us, not to make war, not to bring peace, just to bring a teaching… They see us here as their little brothers or something. And they want to bring a real teaching of the natural life, and of the spiritual belonging, spiritual teaching, spiritual life and all this.”
Or, in Semjase’s words, “We too are still far removed from perfection and have to evolve just like yourselves. We are neither superior nor super-human, nor are we missionaries…we feel duty bound to the citizens of Earth, because our forebearers were their forebearers…You call us extraterrestrials or star-men, and you attribute to us super-human powers even though you do not know us. Regarding this, we are men like you, but our knowledge and our understanding exceeds yours considerably, especially in the technical field…General public contacts are not in our own best interests at this time and besides, they would not convey a correct significance for the state of mind in which we now exist.”
saturday-july-21-2007-12.JPG
Harbingers of ‘spiritual insights’—instead of the vanguard of a marauding space armada seeking new territories to plunder, Meier claimed the Pleiadians sought only to impart fundamental metaphysical ‘truths’, such as these observations from ‘Semjase’…
“Above everything stands one force alone. We call it the CREATION. It regulates the laws over all–the life and death of everything in the universe, because it is everything in the universe.
Real spirituality comes from the understanding of the laws of nature—the natural working of cause and effect—each contributing to, and sharing with all. When you indulge in ritual and ceremony real spirit pines away until it is gone.
A spiritually developed being, as a part of creation, acknowledges creation in all things, even the smallest microbe, and leading a creative life causes fears and doubts to vanish like rain before the sun…wisdom is the mark of a human who has recognized the existence of his spirit and works with it according to the Creational laws…”.
By creative thinking man acquires knowledge and wisdom and a sense of unlimited strength, which unbinds him from the limitations of convention and dogma… One can never identify God separately from creation because God itself is a part of it.”
Gentle spiritual insights shared by a high-tech civilization from the stars? At the outset, it struck me that a potentially vast wealth of advanced knowledge and understanding for humans of Earth was being offered here. The implications were staggering. Imagine the quantum leap in human development that an open exchange with such an extraterrestrial civilization might afford—advances in space flight technology, development of free-energy systems, the elimination of disease, famine, pollution and war—the chance to transform Earth into a more peaceful, humane world! Surely our planet’s entire population would eagerly welcome and applaud such a monumental opportunity! Alas, not so…

Within the following three years, Wendelle had published two picture books and a lengthier investigative report based on the Meier contact. Each volume contained tantalizing snip-its of Pleiadian quotations, yet I knew Wendelle was in possession of the complete text of contact notes, still awaiting translation from their original German. I was eager to learn more of Semjase’s wisdom and always pressed Wendelle to complete and publish an English version of the full transcript. Although he regularly assured me that he would, I could sense on his part a certain inexplicable reluctance to do so as well.
Finally, Wendelle confessed the reason for his hesitation… “You know,” he admitted, “some of the material in those notes could be considered seditious.”
“Seditious?” I responded with disbelief. “How could all those charming spiritual insights be considered seditious?” I would soon learn why…
Upon reading the full text, I discovered the Pleiadians had much more to impart than just metaphysical homilies—they were not the least bit shy about sharing pointed criticisms of planet Earth’s human inhabitants, cultures and life ways as well…
“It is a known fact on many worlds, that the Earth human being defies [real] spiritual growth and develops himself only within gross materialism…a material being identifies himself with his body, his possessions and goods, his utterances and the sound of his voice. If, on the other hand, one identifies with the ALL, no hates or avarice can live in him, and he makes no selfish differentiations any more… Without exception, all Earth governments are made up of human beings for which power hunger and an avid thirst for profits are characteristic…they only want, under cover of peace and friendship, to occupy our ray-ships, to exercise absolute rule over the Earth.”
The Pleiadians viewed all Earthly social structures such as governments, corporate economic institutions, religions and the like as self-serving, monolithic, authoritarian, constructs solely designed to exploit humanity, reducing the mass population into mere consumer/materialistic slaves—a truth also perceived throughout history by this world’s indigenous peoples as well as ancient Gnostic texts.
Religion is only the primitive work of human beings, in purpose to lead them, to suppress them, and for exploitation, into which only spiritually deficient life can fall…Bring this truth to the light of the world and make it known. This is a further part of our mission. If this does not happen, then mankind will slowly destroy itself and fall into complete spiritual darkness…religion can suppress a being and make him depend on something that stands above him and gives him orders and advice. The result is a creature no more master of himself, but subjecting himself to something that remains powerfully above him.”
“Religions, in the meaning that they exist on Earth, are then unique in this Universe, and they find no equal. They control the Earth human and the whole planet, and retard your world thousands of years, in Spiritual respect. Every Spiritual evolution is blocked by these religions and finds no progress.”
The Pleiadians further warned of dire consequences threatening the very life of our planet, as a direct result of the irresponsible indifference and greed of political institutions and industrial conglomerates wastefully exploiting our world’s natural resources…the effects of humanity’s ‘spiritual deficiency’ can be witnessed daily in the accelerating deterioration of Earth’s eco-sphere—its natural ability to sustain life!
“…At the present time [Earth] is already experiencing the pains of destruction itself. This is to understand the way that the Earth human being exploits his planet and robs from it its fundamental life force when he deprives it of its oil, gas and the different ores. The effect of this is that the Earth suffers shifts inside leading to volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, because the Earth is slowly breaking down into itself…Your politicians and scientists are absolutely irresponsible creatures, from whom in any case, the power ought to be replaced by reasonable and responsible forces…Earth is already hurt so much inside and out that she roars up inside. Huge earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, climatic alterations, storms, tidal waves and accidental events will make their world appearance in the future. Whole countries will sink down into the sea, and numerous human beings will find an evil end.” In fact, to assure a measure of protection to Meier and his family from impending upheavals, the Pleiadians urged him to relocate to a farm near Hinterschmidruti, Switzerland.
Wendelle Stevens explained the purpose of the Pleiadian ‘mission’ was to “expose politics as an outgrowth of early religions, and to show that it should be recognized for the tool of enslavement that it really is.” Such a stance of course made Meier appear to be an “anti-Religionist” as well as “anti-Capitalist, anti-Communist, anti-Fascist and anti-political…no lack of enemies indeed.”
However, in light of current global events, the Stevens’ views on the Pleiadian messages seem more prophetic than ever, considering “the wave of religious fundamentalism sweeping the lands. It is paradoxical that the religious fundamentalists, each preaching peace and brotherhood, and each blessing their great armies marching off to kill in the name of “their God”, are the ones destined, now as always, to bring great bloodshed upon this world and even its ultimate destruction.”

Stevens stated that the ultimate message of the Pleiadians was that “it is time for Earthman to change—to break his bondage to his imposed religious and political institutions and dogma, and the ever proliferating creation of more and more laws, all of which serve to further hold him in ever greater slavery than he has ever known. He has imprisoned himself in his institutionalized fears of confinement, death, ever lasting hell and of his own fellow man, and in this fear he [is] deliberately planning his own suicide and destruction of his entire world…We don’t have to do this. It is all our own choice. We can change it any time WE want…and nobody is ever coming from anywhere to relieve us of this responsibility—a most enlightening message indeed!”

The Pleiadians themselves admitted that the truth was sometimes a bitter pill—one to be administered in small doses. As such, the Pleiadians scrupulously avoided overt mass contact with the general population of Earth humanity. They feared humans would simply worship them as ‘saviors’, twisting their ‘message’ into yet another monolithic religion. Or, in Semjase’s words, “then the human beings on Earth would again fall in their beliefs and remain retarded in evolution.” It was far more important for “Earth human beings to become self-supporting, to think in their own way and to begin acting in a right manner.” Therefore the Pleiadians left only proof enough of their existence with Meier to infer their reality–leaving sufficient ‘plausible deniability’ to satisfy the skeptics. It was the meaning in the ‘messages’ that, in the long run, would be of far greater value than any ‘razzle-dazzle’ UFO snapshots! And Semjase assured Meier that people all over the world would be touched and inspired by the teachings he imparted.

It’s been more than thirty years since that fateful January in 1975, when a, one-armed Swiss security guard was visited by a lady from the Pleiades. We are now well into the first decade of the New Millennium and facing a growing threat of Islamic terrorism, an ongoing ground war in Iraq that could likely mushroom into a uncontrolled religious conflict spreading throughout the Middle East, not to mention, runaway global warming and the potential for ever more disastrous storms and weather conditions. With the human population of Earth now facing more danger than ever in history–one cannot examine the Pleiadian ‘messages’ in light of such events and dismiss them as delusional fantasies of yesteryear—in fact they seem more timely and urgent by the moment!
saturday-july-21-2007-4.jpg
After years of painstaking, meticulous research, Wendelle Stevens summed up the Pleiadian visitation this way… “They’re here because they’re concerned about us, their younger brothers. Our technical potentials have exceeded our spiritual capacity of handling the information and we are now in a position where we can destroy ourselves and we don’t have the spiritual development to prevent it.
Because of this we have become a laboratory experiment. They are waiting to see what we are going to do. As a matter of fact, they don’t see us as solving the problem. They see us as an insane society rushing headlong to destruction—and that only a change of mass mind on a mass scale can influence it, and they don’t see this happening—and that’s staggering because its US that’s involved!”
At heart, Eduard Meier was a gun-totin’ adventurer, who sported the nickname “Billy” thanks to his love of Wild West stories and characters like, Billy-the-Kid. Over his life he had served a stint as a sailor, as a soldier in the French Foreign Legion, and at one point he even tried a monk’s life in a New Delhi Ashram. But if only half of his claim to be hobnobbing with star pilots from the Pleiades proved true, it would still be the adventure of a lifetime!
Of course his contacts with Semjase were not all filled with dire discourses of gloom and doom, there were lighter moments as well–such as the time ‘Billy’ showed Semjase’s sister, Pleja, how to ride his ‘barbaric’ motorcycle.
And from the notes, it is touching to read of the warm camaraderie that developed between Meier and his primary Pleiadian mentor, Semjase. But not to be underestimated, this lovely blue-eyed lass, was a formidable intellect. Aside from being a skilled star-pilot, she was master of multiple science and sociological disciplines. In fact, she had spent the equivalent of ten years specifically studying Earth sociology just to prepare her self for the Meier contact. Pleiadian life spans average 1000 years, so at a youthful 300 years of age, Semjase’s education was already the equivalent of numerous doctoral studies.
A curious side note to this enigmatic extra-terrestrial’s identity came to Wendelle Stevens in 1989 from an anonymous letter, allegedly penned by an intelligence operative who had been monitoring the Swiss case. Cryptically he confided a strange synchronicity that whenever Billy had a contact, a particular woman under surveillance in India would disappear!
High strangeness… It remains impossible to prove whether Billy Meier’s story is fact or fiction. Yet for me this UFO case remains, without question, my favorite. It taught me how to look at my world from an extraterrestrial’s point of view!
Real or not, this case fits my personal ideal for an extraterrestrial contact—a gentle cultural exchange that seeks a common frame of reference. If nothing else, this mythical Pleiadian case offers the abiding hope that somewhere out among the stars there exists a kinder, gentler world than the one we know.

As Billy would remind us…
“The materialism way isn’t the true way for the life of a human being. There are two points that are very important, that’s the materialism way and the spiritual way. They have to work together. Not only one of them has to work–to change this again to the real way, to the collected way by materialism way and spiritual way. [The Pleiadians] come here again to teach the Earth people. That’s the only reason they have. Not to bring war to Earth or to bring peace to the humans here on Earth by themselves. If they want peace and knowledge and love and everything here on Earth, we have to change everything by ourselves as human beings from this Earth.”
Or, as Semjase would say…
“The only thing limiting the progress of the Earth-human, is the Earth-human himself…”
